    Liner Notes :

    Syndicated Dreams - volume 16:

As anyone knows from my previous postings on the Steve Wynn newsgroup - I've almost always prefered a collection of songs taken from different sources for the Syndicated Dreams series - rather than a complete recent show. Not only does this allow you to pick the best songs, the best performed songs, etc - it allows for more variety of material overall. Jeff Regan has assembled at least one another compilation of Wynn tracks that I can remember (I don't keep up on this as much as I used to), but I can tell you this - with authority - this is the best Jeff Regan/Steve Wynn compilation ever !

I won't bore you with a song by song review - but I will point out some of the highlights in my mind - it's funny to hear Steve do a Suspects song (and amazing he could remember the chords and lyrics after all these years) "Talking Loud". We've got 3 Dylan covers on here - including the obscure classic "The Groome's Still Waiting At The Altar". (heard him do that once with Chuck Prophet on Steve's first post-Dream Syndicate solo tour). And while we're on the subject of cover songs - let's not forget Richard Thompson's "Calvary Cross". (Steve performed this with Chuck during his most recent San Francisco layover and I stupidly left before they played it).

The track listing I received with this set of CD-Rs gave me detailed info on how these songs were recorded - DAT's, WAV files, FLAC downloads, etc - personally I don't give a flying f*ck about any of that - the important thing for me is - THE MUSIC - after all these years, Steve still performs with such passion, such conviction - that each show feels fresh. Although I'm sometimes disappointed by THE MUSIC captured in the studio, I've never seen a show or heard a live tape that didn't grab me in some way.

James Brown claims to be the hardest working man in show business - and if so, then Steve runs a close second. For those living in Europe, it seems like he's touring constantly over there - and for anyone attending Austin's SxSW festival - you'll likely to catch him at over half a dozen performances during a 3 or 4 day period.

What more can I say? These 2 CDs are "tasty" - enjoy them. I certainly have.
