My first exposure to Steve and company that started me down this path of 23 years of fandom. Went to see REM (Michael Stipe had his foot in cast and sat on a stool) for the first time and there was this killer opening band I'd never heard of fronted by this guy in a cool maroon paisley jacket (I think it's the same one as the cover of Live at Raji's) that reminded me of Van Morrison!
