Released October 2000

    Liner Notes :

This collection could have been called: The good, the bad, and the ugly. It is not really a collection of the best Steve Wynn cover versions, although some great moments are contained here. It is more like an audio snapshot, taken at different times, with various degrees of exposure and light. Some in color, some in black & white. Many of them in focus, others grainy and fuzzy. The point here is diversity. An interesting look at the many different songs, songwriters, and bands that Steve has been influenced by or felt moved enough to cover their songs. I am sure some of them he does not even really like that much, but the song seemed like a good idea at the time. Lets enjoy the best moments here and let us ignore some of the more embarrassing things on this disc. There are a few. Personally I would welcome another couple of volumes of this stuff. Its a fun listen. And maybe the real cream can be compiled for a legitimate release someday. I will give a special prize if anyone can unearth versions of the Dream Syndicate doing the Bryan Adams song Cuts Like A Knife and an Eddy Grant song: Electric Avenue. If my memory serves me well, sometime in the mid-80s those songs got played, if only for a few minutes, for one time only, at one show only. Maybe more, I dunno. By the way, its not only Steve having fun on this disc, check out the lead vocals from Robert Mache on Born to Be Wild, Fly Me to the Moon and In Dreams. The greatest cover songs by Steve Wynn and pals? maybe not, but some great entertainment to be had for sure. Enjoy it and dont take it too seriously. I didnt.

PS, The Who once sang: Its the singer, not the song, that makes the music move along. Well, case in point, I never paid any attention to the Don Henley song Boys Of Summer. Then Steve started singing it during the summer of 1986 and it caught it my ear. It is a great song. I love it now. Even the Henley version.
